What are the benefits of private or semi-private training options?

When weighing the various models of training that the fitness industry has to offer, there is a lot to consider. 1:1 private training, semi-private training, and group fitness classes all are available and offer various benefits! If you aren’t sure what type of training would be a good fit for you, let us unpack a few of the differences and benefits of private training and semi-private training. Both of these options offer high accountability and lead to the fastest and longest lasting results!

Private training

Private training consists of working directly with one Coach during each training session. Your workout program is designed specifically for you!  Each set and rep are closely monitored by your Coach. This training offers the highest accountability – each session is a scheduled appointment on your calendar with your trainer.

  1. Personalized Programs: One highlight of private training is personalized programs. Workouts are designed specifically for your fitness level, goals, and preferences. Private training with a Coach allows your Coach to get to know you and your goals on a more personal level. Additionally, your Coach will learn the way you respond to training, where you need to push harder, and where you might need to slow down. Having someone to create workouts and guide you as you execute them leads to smarter training decisions and better results. Working 1:1 offers opportunities to discuss the why behind your training. This can increase your personal buy-in. You are never on your own during a private training session!
  2. One-on-One Attention: Direct guidance from your trainer ensures proper form and technique, reducing the risk of injury. Especially if you are unfamiliar with lifting weights, having 1:1 attention is a great way to quickly increase your skill and knowledge.
  3. Accountability and Scheduling: Private training means that you are directly communicating with your Coach about your training schedule! This provides a more flexible and customized structure if you have limited training times or a changing schedule. 1:1 training offers time to discuss nutrition and recovery protocols that make all the difference. You are only in the gym for an hour – but the other 23 hours count!
  4. Personal Connection: Private training fosters a deeper personal connection! Your Coach will make sure you are seen and heard. Adjustments are made to your plan to keep you on track as needed. Accountability and consistency are often highest with private training because your trainer cares about YOU!

Semi-Private training

Semi-private training is a unique model in which a small group of individuals (generally 4-6 people) are working out at the same time with one Coach. In this model, clients still have personalized training programs, but they may be completing them in a session with other members who have different goals.

  1. Motivation from Peers: While 1:1 connection is great, some individuals enjoy the energy that comes alongside exercising with others! If you want to be surrounded by a supportive environment (that can even foster a bit of friendly competition), semi-private training is a fit for you! The social interaction and relationship building from semi-private training can make lifestyle and behavior changes easier to adhere to.
  2. Guidance: Semi-private training is a great fit for individuals who want to be coached but do not desire continuous feedback during a workout. Semi-private training offers a hybrid between group fitness and 1:1 Coaching. Having one Coach for multiple individuals means that you are sharing Coaching time and may need to self facilitate workout setup or recording of your results (ex. reps completed). While coaching time is shared, the community environment brings a different level of energy and fun!
  3. Cost effective: If you are looking for something personalized but are not financially in a place to do 1:1 training – semi-private training is a great way to get customized training at a lower price point. While semi-private training requires more independence than 1:1 training, it still has a high level of customization and coaching compared to traditional group fitness.
